Hi, I’m Teresa

I'm a New Jersey licensed Certified Public Accountant and the founder of Jersey Tax Studio.

After over 7 years of working closely with individuals and small business owners, I started my own firm because I believed there was room for something different in accounting: experienced, technically sound work paired with modern technology, clear communication, and an accountant you can actually feel comfortable talking to.

I know most people don't love accounting. Frankly, I don't expect you to. My job is to take as much of it off your plate as possible, make sure it's done right, and explain the things that actually matter without overwhelming you with the things that don't.

Before founding Jersey Tax Studio, I built my career at a local CPA firm where I grew into a senior leadership role managing client relationships and overseeing accounting and tax engagements for individuals and small businesses across a wide range of industries.

My experience extends well beyond preparing tax returns. I've managed the day-to-day needs of a large client base, supervised and trained staff, handled complex tax matters, advised business owners throughout the year, and helped oversee the systems and workflows required to keep a CPA practice running.

Jersey Tax Studio is the next chapter of that career—and an opportunity to take everything I've learned and build a firm that reflects the way I believe accounting should be done.

So, why Jersey Tax Studio?

Throughout my career, I've worked with clients across the country and seen firsthand how quickly tax compliance becomes more complex when a firm tries to serve every jurisdiction.

That experience helped shape one of the core principles behind Jersey Tax Studio: I don't want to know a little about every state. I want to know a lot about the place I serve.

JTS was built with a deliberately local focus, allowing us to develop deeper expertise in the tax laws, compliance requirements, and issues that affect individuals and businesses here in New Jersey and the surrounding tri-state area.

Because sometimes, bigger isn't better. More focused is.

A little more about me

My relationship with the New Jersey accounting community started before I ever became a CPA. As a student, I was fortunate to receive a scholarship from the New Jersey Society of CPAs—support that helped encourage me as I was finding my place in the profession.

Years later, having built a career in a field that has given me so much, it felt important to return the favor. I've had the opportunity to mentor aspiring accountants through both the New Jersey Society of CPAs and Rutgers Road to CPA program, helping students navigate some of the same early career decisions that once felt so big to me.

I'm proud to have built Jersey Tax Studio as a woman-owned and LGBTQ+ owned CPA firm—and to create the kind of business where people can feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to the table.

None of this would have been possible without my partner, Maeve, who has supported me through the long days, big decisions, and probably more conversations about accounting than she ever signed up for. Building a business takes a village, and I'm incredibly lucky to have her in mine.

Meet the real management team

And finally, no introduction to Jersey Tax Studio would be complete without Penny and Poppy, our two rescue dogs and self-appointed office managers.

Their accounting experience is limited, their attention to detail is questionable, and they have been known to sleep on the job—but morale has never been higher.

You'll probably spot them on a video call, so don't be surprised if they make an appearance.

(Poppy is white and brown and Penny is apricot, because every CPA has a dog named after a copper penny!)
